Kim, we started in the dog fancy (with Cockers) before our daughter was
born. She is now 23 years old and was allowed to hold puppies from the time
that she was a toddler. My husband would hand her tiny, two week old
puppies! We taught her the right way to handle puppies and she has always
loved dogs. The only draw back is that Erin is totally fearless of dogs and
will get too close to dogs of other breeds that don't know her. She has
given us some "heart in your throat" moments over the years because of this.
She just doesn't understand that another breed may not react the way a
Cavalier does. Unfortunately, it will probably take a bite for her to
realize that you simply can't handle a strange dog the way you can a
Cavalier as she thinks "Mom is just being overprotective".
All the best,
Susan Cochran
