Hi Anathea,

In your quest for the perfect Cavalier for yourself and your family, don't
forget to inquire about the health testing the breeder does on his/her
breeding stock. Cavaliers have several inherited conditions that serious,
responsible breeders test for and try to eliminate from the dogs they produce.
If a breeder should tell you something like, "Oh, I don't test for MVD / hip
dysplasia / eye conditions because my line doesn't have those problems," RUN
(don't walk) the other way, because there is NO Cavalier bloodline that is
entirely free of potential inherited defect. A breeder who says something like
this either (1) has no clue about the potential breed health problems and
therefore shouldn't be breeding anyway, or (2) knows but doesn't care enough
to test for the problems. You'd spend the same money buying from a good
breeder who *does* test, as you would from someone who does not. And the
breeder should have verifiable proof *in writing* from the veterinary
specialists who did the testing. Don't just take their word for it. Too many
have, and lived to rue the day.

Good luck!
