Have to agree with Kim Each situation should be assessed on its own merits My son and daughter in law, who both worked, had a cavalier puppy as their first child When their real baby came home from the hospital, my daughter in law went in the house without the baby first so she could greet the dog who was then introduced to the dog as if the dog was his older sibling. All four of them slept in bed together. When the second child was born, they got a bigger bed so there would be room for them, two babies, and the cavalier. Now they have three children and everyone is in their own beds including the dog. However, Crumpet is still adored and my grandchildren have very special feelings for small animals which I think is in great measure because they have their own. Julie
