I like to suggest that couples establish their human family first... that
they should have all their children; wait until their youngest is at least 5
years of age (preferably Age 6); and then look into getting a dog for their
well-established family.  I agree with Patricia that when puppy comes first
and then the children, the dog usually gets in the way and is booted out the
door.

I also feel that Cavaliers should never be trained to say off leash.  They
should always been safely contained behind a fence or on a leash at ALL
times.  It only takes a second for a "trained" Cavalier to see something
move, such as even a butterfly, and dart clear across a busy street and end
up in a deadly accident.  It's just NOT worth taking a chance.
