This is a round-about way of explaining--but the intent is obvious. These
same people who don't publicly post their health records (phenotypical
health expression), don't mind at all that show wins are publicly posted
(phenotypical type expression). They do not feel it is invading their
privacy at all--in fact I have never heard a single person complain about
it. Every time a specialty is held, many ask for the results. But I have
never seen someone say *there was a health clinic this weekend--does anyone
know the results?*.

These same people go to shows, publicly watch dogs being shown, see parents,
siblings, offspring and make breeding decisions for type based as much on
genotypical inheritance of type as they possibly can because they know this
works. But when it comes to genotypical inheritance of health--very few
publicly post anything--almost as though genes work only for type and
temperament--but not for health. What works for the goose, works for the
gander. Obviously if many breeders are SO anxious to find out who is
winning, what dogs look like so they can figure out ways to improve the
phenotypical expression of the type of their dogs and feel they are
successfully doing it because of the easy availability of that information,
I would feel that if the health information isn't as easily available
(almost NOT available in many cases) they could not be as successful with
health as they are with type. And those that treat both equally will
therefore be more successful. It just plain cannot work for type but not
health.

In my opinion, it isn't any more invading my privacy if people know a
certain dog of mine has hip dysplasia than if people see one of my dogs and
know it has poor shoulder angulation or cow hocks or a poor head. Both are
phenotypical expressions of faults. The type ones are easily seen, the
health ones *invisible* unless posted. It just seems strange to me that we
*agree* to be open with type and temperament, but health becomes a *private*
matter--as if it has a different mode of inheritance.
