Myra, that is the difference between the way the gene pool is restricted in
Cavaliers and the way things are done in other AKC breeds. When I was in
Cockers in the 1970s, a stranger could call up anyone listed in the annual
Stud Review  and arrange for stud service. Most breeders required a
brucellosus test, but I  don't remember ever being asked for a pedigree or
even for the female's photo. I am not commenting on the pro's and con's of
how each breeder handles stud inquiries, but simply on their effect on
genetic diversity in the breed.
