I usually listed my dogs in the stud registers and I assure you that I don't
recall EVER accepting a single stud service from people who called as a
result of the ads. And it would be unthinkable to not inquire about a
bitches' pedigree and her good and bad points, and why the person wanted to
use this particular dog and I know that NONE of my friends would have
accepted a bitch for breeding without this information. I did then and still
do allow the dogs to be used ONLY to bitches whose personal qualities as
well as their pedigrees complement my dog and vice-versa. Often people with
beautiful bitches honored me with inquiries, and I would reccommend other
dogs based on my knowledge of my own dog's abilities, heritage, and their
girl's. I am very proud that I was the "silent" breeder of many many
champions in that manner (and still am), not all good dogs and bitches "go"
with each other no matter how lovely they are...we could all write pages on
this! I believe that the purpose of a 'hobby' breeder is to create good
quality dogs to represent them in the show ring. I advertise my Cockers
because I am proud of them, not to attract business. JMHO, Michael Allen,
Am.Cockers since 1953 (or 2, one forgets with advancing senility)
