> Tile and/or a good linoleum > are best, with REAL wood following right behind these two.
I agree about the hard wood, Marilyn. I have the real hard wood throughout my home with the exception of my office and the guest bedroom. Every room, even the kitchen, has large rugs and every hall way has runners or series of rugs. I have three Cavaliers who I can say with all honesty are perfectly house broken and don't shed very much (raw diet and Mrs. Allen's Shed Stop -- I am not associated with the company just like the product). My dogs can be in any room and I don't have to worry about noise, scatching or damaging the floors. My floors and rugs are easy to vacuum and take care of in general. My housecleaner uses a simply mixture of vinegar and water in a spray bottle -- no expensive chemicals to buy. I can spot an imitation wood floor a mile away and think they look cheap. The imitations don't gain the warmth and patina that good wood does over time. I seriously don't think the real wood floors are any more difficult to care for than any other kind of floor. Not-to-mention the added benefit of increasing the value of your home.
