Robin, I checked out the sponsorship form and there are questions on there that I could not answer unless I actually knew you. In fact, one of them is "When did you first meet him/her?" I would have to be truthful about this and I'm not sure that the Club would approve the membership request. Although the form doesn't say that the prospective member has to be an acquaintance, the questions do imply that.
I hadn't thought about this before nor looked at the new form at www.ackcsc.org , but it does look like one way to decrease the number of membership applications. Most cavalier fanciers are pretty distant from each other so this tends to encourage mentors for sponsors-- which has both good points as well as problems.
