I know I was disappointed at the membership requirements for ACKCSC, but I
understand them too. Here in Indianapolis, we don't have a regional club,
and at the last show, only a very few of 30 or so Cavaliers was from Indy.
So, the thought of even meeting someone that would visit my house, would be
remote at best.
I was in labs, years and years ago. And I did join and belonged to our
local club. As far as AKC structure and breed clubs go, the regional clubs,
I do believe are much more the venue to meet others locally, and then when
you go to national events, you can tell which club you belong to! At least
thats what we did in labs :)
I also know that I looked into joining the parent club for labs,
NLRC??? its been a long time ;) . I am trying to remember, very definite
history here, ;) At that point, they too had sponsorship, and if I remember
right, you had to be an associate member for like 2 years, with no voting
rights before you could then apply again for full membership. These
national parent clubs are the ones the AKC turns to for breed standards, to
educate judges etc.... In this, yes, they want to protect the breed and
make sure that anyone who does vote, is knowledgeable and has a clue, and
the breeds best interest at heart.
Politics will always play a part in any breed club, regardless of
which one it is....I'm not totally sure either one is without fault...
I know the ACKCSC has an associate membership too, even then, I wish
someone was close....but as everyone else has said, you don't have to be a
member to show, and as always, you don't have to be a member to be ethical
in choosing those you breed to, that is purely a personal decision. In the
end, the AKC can punish anyone with a dog registered, if you really break
the rules, you don't have to belong to the parent club to find yourself in
real trouble.....
Sooooooo, anyone else in Central Indiana interested in starting a
regional CKCS AKC club??? :)
Catch ya later,
Suzann
