I don't blame you.  I don't answer "unknown callers" either.  I did switch
from voice mail to an answering machine, though, primarily because of
"unknown callers."  In my area, one of the cell phone companies still says
"unknown caller."  A lot of people do call me from their cell phones, so I
can now just screen the call and when they start talking, I pick it up.
Also, many people use cell phones for long distance if they have free long
distance.

I've also had people call me long distance from their home, and it does not
give their name.  I think some areas are not updated in this department yet.
