Hi Peggy the Wicked ;-) et al

I don't mean to single you out here but your post kind of struck a chord with me
and I thought it would be a good topic for discussion. What steps to most of the
breeders on this list take when selling to a novice show home? What are your
determining factors before you do? How involved do you remain afterwards and for
how long? Peggy, when you say you are turned off to selling to new show homes do
you mean you are much more wary when considering it and make sure you have the time
to be as involved with them before doing it or do you mean you just don't sell to
new show homes anymore? After that kind of an experience I'd be disheartened as
well. But the fact remains that unless we were born into the sport we all had to be
someone's first show home. Not all novice show homes are created equal, some will
take the time to learn all they can about the breed, the sport, pedigrees, read
every book written on whelping and canine genetics, learn what makes a good stud
dog owner if they plan to get a male, get to know the different breeders among the
reputable and try to learn form everyone. Some will expect that everything be done
for them and make no effort to learn a thing. I don't think it is fair to paint
them with the same brush. The potential that a new show home may reach not only
depends on their willingness and enthusiasm but also on the involvement of the
breeder and the support of others in the breed which includes the pet owners
especially the ones who go to the shows just to watch or to participate in a
different venue. You'd be surprised how just the smallest gesture of positive
support can impact a person. Heck I might not be sitting here writing this if it
weren't for a few small gestures from others, I'd probably still have one dog who
would have never become a champion and I might have never set foot in a ring again.
Sorry to go off on a tangent LOL but I'd really like to know what makes some of you
decide to sell to a new show home and what steps you take to help?

Terrie:)
