Kim
As I said in my post I was not making any comment on any specific post that
had been posted but was commenting in general terms
What I wrote was because it genuinely concerns me what some breeders write
in their "warrarentees" particularly if and when a problem arises and
litigation is involved

AS you have mentioned specific people which I was very careful not to - I
will make the following comments

I don't suppose for one minute that the breeder of Deborah's dog would have
expected the dog to come up with MVD at two and a half. I bet she (the
breeder)wished she had the crystal ball I mentioned in my post! I'm glad for
Deborah that a satisfactory outcome was achieved.

Likewise I was not being critical of Laura's guarantees but merely responded
to her post because I was curious what would happen in the scenario I
described.
I have probably been breeding as long as she has and I can assure you I have
seen some pretty fat lazy Cavaliers - the owners of which I have sent off
with the advice ringing in their ears not to overfeed however appealing the
puppy might be, do give regular exercise, watch the dogs weight etc!! VBG
Come to think of it I have some pretty fat lazy Cavaliers here!!
I've also seen over the years some pretty outstanding potential show dogs
bred by friends and sold, that have not achieved their potential due to
being overweight , lacking in muscle and generally not presented well - the
owners have been heard to complain about their lack of success but seem
unable to realise that the answer is in their own hands!

I suppose in a way at present this is another example of the difference in
cultures between our two countries - though as they say what happens in the
US today happens in the UK tomorrow.
Meanwhile I will carry on for a little while longer the way I have for the
last quarter of a century. No pieces of paper merely my word as my bond that
if a problem should arise I will negotiate with the owner to reach a
satisfactory outcome for both of us
Oh I forgot I do have one piece of paper I expect people to sign - that is
that if they can't keep the dog for what ever reason it has to be returned
to me!!
