Excellent post Annette. I think the key to everyone being happy in regards to
the person acquiring a show/breeding Cavalier is open and honest communication
about the expectations of each party before anyone goes home with a puppy. If a
breeder tells the buyer or states in their contract that they are going to
warranty something than they should stand by what they say. If the breeder says,
I'm not psychic but these are healthy lines that have been tested and the odds
are in your favor that is ok too as long as it is discussed up front and agreed
to by all involved. If things are not specifically addressed then it is unfair
to have any expectations later when something arises. If the buyer is getting a
show prospect then it is their responsibility to socialize and get the pup ring
experience and show it. I recently saw a young Golden at show who had never gone
to a handling class, not been properly socialized, tail tucked between the legs,
wouldn't let the judge examine etc. If I were the breeder I would just as livid
as if it never saw a show ring as intended. I must say I was surprised to learn
that not everyone warrantees against MVD before 2 1/2 because of what I'm
accustomed to in Goldens. Then again after further thought it's like comparing
apples to oranges. What it all boils down to is find a breeder you can trust
and have a good relationship with.

Terrie:)
