Susan, I think your letter was wonderful! My thought when I read that letter was that a child would not use the expression "single family home." I think a parent helped her write the letter, or at least the middle part of it. Maybe the parent did not see the end result, and possibly did not know it would be offensive. I think some parents might even think they are giving the child some responsibility by instructing them to find a puppy.
Either way, I think you have done an excellent job of educating with your letter.
