In answer to the question posed on do you just test the show prospects eyes or the
whole litter, I can confirm I always do the whole litter. It is important for me to
know about all the puppies produced so I can better manage and understand my breeding
programme vs. results. I just recently had two litters checked (4 puppies in one and
1 in another) I was still charged the full price on the singleton litter ( a bit mean
- but there you go) 74.00 later I still had their 'MOT' to be done by my local vet
with 3 having their vaccinations a further 114.00. No point in cutting corners -
pleased to say they all passed with flying colours. However not so lucky was a litter
being checked before mine with four Shelties in it - really cute too, only one passed!
Although they may continue with the line using the 'clear' Sheltie - reality is that
the others in the litter were not clear with the implication that she has this
recessive gene and needs to be really careful with her breeding programme- hence my
belief you need to have the whole litter checked.
