I make the call in my facility.  I have the most medicare training and keep up with the changes.  This is usually deferred to me unless we have a situation that is questionable, then the administrator makes the final call if he wants to take the chance for a potential denial.

The DON usually makes the call, but sometimes she will look to me for clarification if she isn't sure.  I also have a question that is not related to MDS or anything else like it.  What does the CATFL stand for after your RN?

Thanks.

Michelle

At least you have experience.  That should help.  You know what you've done at other facilities.

Thanks!  I've found a vast difference among facilities as to the specifics of MDS Coordinator responsibility (hence my question to the group)!
On a related note, in your facility whom makes the final decision as to whether the resident meets Medicare A/skilled criteria eligibility...usually has been the DON or NHA in my past facilities.
