I rotate call with the other MDS Coordinator, Staff Developement, ADON, &
DON. We each take a weekday and alternate weekends. Some weeks we have to
take 2 weekdays, but we can almost always get the weekdays covered. Also,
weekends are not too bad either. We are all salaried and do not get
compensated for taking call. However, if we had to work, we can either take
the time off later in the week (not really an option for MDS Coordinators)OR
get compensated @ time-and-a-half or "pool pay," which ever is larger. Pool
pay is an amount that is less than the facility would have to pay the
agency, but is a lot more than staff would make at the regular rate. CNAs
and Nurses are eligible if they have worked their regular shifts and not
called out. A lot of employees take advantage of this option.

Hi everyone:

How many of the MDS Coordinators out there are required to take nursing "on
call" rotation for your facilities?

Appreciate any and all answers!

Thanks!
Donna Browne-Atkins, RN, MDS Coordinator
