We have 4 MDS coordinators, ADON and DON that take call for 24/7 every 6 weeks. We carry our cells or pagers. We are not required to work the floor but it has happened (rarely). We are required to be on call to handle crises and staffing issues. We have an excellent secretary that does our scheduling for c.n.a's and our ADON staffs for nursing. In the 4 years that I having been working as an MDS coordinator, I've had to come in once and that was d/t a blizzard and 3 L.S. call in's. We are not paid for being on call but we can flex our time if we've had a bad week on call. i.e. we can leave early or come in late one day to make up the time from being on call. We've tried to get some compensation for being on call but no such luck. We are salaried and get an extra weeks vacation so it comes out even I guess. The only thing that sucks is when you are on call you cannot leave town. That does tend to tie you down for the week.

Appreciate any and all answers! Thanks!
