But IF you have a PC on your systems desk - with its requisite monitor - then I'd think that the addition of a KVM switch (keyboard-video-mouse: basically a device that lets you share a single keyboard, mouse and monitor amongst up-to-several computers) and a Mac-to-VGA adapter (for connecting the SE30 internal video card output to the input of the KVM, and thence onward to the PC monitor), would rather make the whole arrangement quite within the realm of the decidely and practically useful, and without the least diminution of the "all-in-one" concept. After all, those gray scale cards aren't just found in the parts bin at every thrift store you dig through, and trying to buy one for the amounts the things typically bring on eBay would [usually] result in such EXTREME matrimonial disharmony (at least in my crib) as to obviate the acquisition on that particular venue ...that it makes the more common video cards a much more reasonable - and attractive - alternative, especially when teamed up with a KVM (and a multi-frequency PC monitor **already** sitting on your systems desk). ...in other words, I quite agree with Gamba on this. ...I'm not just playing devil's advocate here: as soon as I get some other projects out of the way a bit, I'm going to try the above (I'll get back with the particular result at end-of-project), as I've got a new-in-box Lapis internal card that I bought years back. ...not that I wouldn't prefer an Xceed card for internal gray-scale, mind you! --- brandon davis --- -- sacramento, ca -- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Oct 2003 19:39:43 -0400 (EDT) From: Jacob Rose Subject: Re: SE/30 questions (monitor and screws) On Thu, 9 Oct 2003, Gamba wrote: > You will have better luck and spend a lot less money by settling for > grayscale/color on an external monitor. I tried to sell one of those on eBay recently (the one that was installed in my SE/30 when I got it), and I think I understand why they're cheap and unwanted: not only do you then have to find a compatible external monitor, but perhaps more fundamentally, you lose the simplicity of an all-in-one computer.
