I don't think you have to open the Classic to adjust the video. Just pop-off
the cover above the power switch. You might find adjusting the voltages will
solve many of your girl's symptoms and keep you from diving in. As much as I
appreciate your desire to have the oldest and latest compatible systems
residing on the same disk, something in the middle will make it much
happier! Just get a bigger internal drive and partition the disk 3 ways!
Whatever you end up using, it will need to support TCP/IP and AppleTalk over
Ethernet in order to network with OSX. I'm sure the old girl's gonna live.
The beauty of these old Macs is like a classic automobile, the parts are
readily available at any electronics shop and it doesn't take a computer
expert to repair them. Most of the problems come on the analogue boards
anyway which are more like a TV than anything else ... which is not the case
for most of the computers after the Colour Classic.
