Georgia, I'll reply to Bob's mail to your fuel questions. Speaking of
Ercoupes Bob was right about the fuel bowl being the place to drain the
header tank. How ever with the Alon they placed another drain on the
header.
So in fact Alons have two points to drain the header tank. Plus One each
wing. And on our Alon one on the carb. bowl. For a total of five.
As far as flying into the header tank, Marcia and I do it all the
time.
The fuel stop takes 45 mins on average from let down to climb out. If we
can
make San Jose in one stop why would we want an extra stop.
If we're running into a head wind some times we will need to. But
running
into the header is not an unsafe way to fly.
As you go through your ground school you will read what the FARs say
about reserve fuel both Day & night, IFR & VFR.
Now in fact you'll not be flying an Ercoupe in training so forget
most
of this for now. The Cessna fuel system is different. Get the Pilot Op
Handbook and start looking at it. Bring us your question off line if need.
Your question on fuel are most general and the answers are in general the
same for all Airplanes. But like Ercoupe vs. Alon the same airplane can be
different. Keep going. Yours, Warren
