I agree with your point that something or someone will appear to fill any
vacuum left out at night to all comers, and that apart from presuming to
shoulder the mantle of world leadership, it might be more useful to don the
robes of responsibility and try to mitigate somewhat the hardships that are
surely on the way for most of us, instead of leaving that role to the
nightstalkers. Rather than displaying erudition, a discussion of what we
could actually do as 'little people' would give more focus to these lengthy
exchanges. As an anarchist I am not particularly politically savvy, and I
have to struggle to follow most of these posts. I do read history, and I
don't trust the newspapers any more than I do most of the historians, so I
get pretty tired of tossing the salt around while reading the posts to these
lists. I have to keep asking myself, who has the most to lose here? And the
only answers I can really trust are--we do. We the people who are taxed, and
who work hard to be able to be taxed, and who constantly wonder how so much
money can be used to so little purpose (I know why--I'm not THAT naive). I
can't see anything changing as long as most people only talk about the world
situation. Does it really matter so much who is right and who is left or who
is in the middle? What matters is that people are dying and dead and so will
we be all too soon, perhaps sooner than we could have expected, and in ways
that we can not even image at this point in time. I have to keep asking--OK,
so what are YOU going to DO about it? I'm not looking to see martyrs, but to
find constructive actions that can make a difference in each of our own areas
of influence. If we can see something coming that is a threat, there are two
responses that are hardwired into us, and neither of them is talking about it.
