No-one who lived thru the downfall of the USSR could ever have been in any
doubt about the fate of Yugoslavia, but actually, wasn;t that fate sealed a
long time-- a very long time-- ago-- when Tito split with Stalin and created
the so-called "Non-aligned movement"? Anyone remember what that was?
>>
Washington recalls the nonaligned movement quite well, Mark. That's why as
soon as the Soviet Union was destroyed, the U.S. went after its leaders, Iraq
and Yugoslavia.

As Mark is fond of saying, "life is not that simple". The nonaligned
movement provided a sanctuary for movements that wanted to be politically
independent of Imperialism without endorsing the Soviet system. Especially
important in Stalin's time; he had an unfortunate habit of dictating that
anti-imperialist movements do disastrous and even suicidal things, as the
tactical mood hit him. The nonaligned movement nurtured resistance along the
lines of Lumumba and Castro. Of course Soviet power shielded them from the
U.S.

HOWEVER it must be said that if Jared is a revolutionary and not merely a
cheerleader for the Serbian Socialist Party, then it is time to move on
[from Yugoslavia]. It is time to take in the larger picture, and address the
global conjuncture, of which Balkan crises are only facets.>>
Why the stupid bait, Mark? Are those of us who have gotten info on the
Anglo-U.S-German attack on Yugoslavia to Leftists AND rightists and just
regular people supposed to stop opposing the U.S. attempt to pacify the
Balkans (i.e., physically eliminate the Serb resistance) now that the SPS is
not in power? THAT would show we were "cheerleaders." As for being
"revolutionary" I leave that for you. I'm just a an old guy who opposes his
country's efforts to crush those around the world who resist.
The Balkans is a) a crucial "conjuncture" of the Anglo-U.S. and
semi-competing German efforts to conquer the East and b) poses the question,
for the world: is independence from the new Anglo-U.S. empire possible? It
is intimately linked to Iraqi resistance (the Serbs were providing military
technical support for Iraq; the new regime betrayed the Iraquis), to the
increase in Chinese resistance/independence, to the question of whether Cuba
can survive as independent, and so on.
What you really mean, Mark, is we should do nothing while England and the
U.S. destroy Yugoslavia because 50 years ago the former Yugoslavia refused to
bow to Stalin and for you that is unforgivable.
Me a cheerleader for the SPS? Emperor's Clothes hardly mentioned the SPS as
such until the Anglo-U.S. regime in Belgrade started trying to eliminate it.
It is VERY good that in the face of a real threat of physical destruction,
the SPS leadership has not made peace with England and the U.S. Miloshevich
has not crawled or fled. That is being watched by millions.
Mark, I know you "lived through the downfall of the USSR," and it is hard for
you to forgive the world, but if you are not to remain "just a cheerleader"
for Stalin, "then it is time to move on."
Jared
