Different, not stronger: Oki can boost beyond certain skills beyond 6; Ash can boost any skill, but only up to 6. > It would be something you notice rather than a DG/Chei boost that is mostly > hidden, and would provide a much needed piety sink. I still think you don't Scrying the credit it is worth. One of the starting tenets of Ash was that the god should be distinctly indirect. You don't have to agree with this, of course, but there are a number of players (and also some developers, I think) who feel that there are too many gods where you have to do a lot of things (sacrifice all the time, train Invocations up). Ash was designed to be not like this: you'll have to think about religious matters from time to time (regarding curses and reskilling), but it'd be a much more laidback affair. > Since piety would have some use, current piety gains would be fine. > > The bonus could be either constant if we want linear gains from bondage, or > increasing with piety if we want quadratic bondage. All of that could be done in principle, but we'd open a new construction site. For example, my proposal was about creating a choice right from start (no use of uncursed gear) with a noticeable, but limited gain (boost of skills up to 6). In particular, it deals with the fact that different species can wear a different number of things by completely decoupling the reward from that number. If you (Adam and Eronarn) can live with it, I'd like to move on with Ash as indicated: time is short, there is a plan, and Raphael is willing to implement. I believe that Ashenzari will be playable and useful with this. We are always free to change later on, as we've done with so many gods, and keep doing.
