I would note that the phrase even has its own Wikipedia page, which is
one reason I expanded it from "mortification":

I've also had to crack open a dictionary occasionally for some of the
in-game vocabulary, religion-based and otherwise.  (I'd never run across
"suffused" before until "The area is suffused with divine lightning!")
I figure it's only a problem if you have to do that for every other word
in a given sentence.
