Malkie,
1. I have several databases with more than 4 panels, and they all run
perfectly on vDos
2. One of these databases has 448667 records, and contains multiple
text-fields (AnAn)
3. I am *not* connected to a network, but I do have a dedicated hard-disk
for my data
4. The Ctrl keys do work normally on my system, including Ctrl-F7 and
Ctrl-F4 ?!?
Maybe the issues that you had with vDos were bugs in an earlier version?
But as far as I can see on my own system, they are no longer an issue...
Btw: Microsoft announces the end of all support for XP starting april 1st
2014, leaving us no much choice than to move on to Win7/8 - or to Linux!
vDos *does* work on 64 bit systems, even for large DP-databases, and it
*does* make it possible for us to continue to use this marvellous software
in the future without any hassle.
Regards,
Geert.

I have not tried other command prompt systems than the integrated

As long as you're with Win XP you're in good hands, but once your
computer goes
down and you can't get any parts for XP, or if you want to upgrade -
good luck in
finding something as good.

Klaus, Jens, and of course all others,
I think there is a general misunderstanding of the use of vDos. vDos
makes it possible to run DP
under 64b.
So why discuss this rebuilding your DP databases if DP still runs
perfect?
Running DP under vDos is very simple. Install setup.exe
fromhttps://sourceforge.net/projects/vdos/
My autoexec.txt ( in c:\vDos ) looks like:
This is what I said to Jos Schaars regarding vDos:
I tested it and was very much hoping it would be just what I needed.
What I liked about
vDos is the large screen, unlike the tiny DosBox screen. However, I have
a few major
issues with vDos.
1. Limited to creating databases with only 4 panels is a major problem,
as most of my
databases have over 25.
2. Limited to only 99 records is also no good since many panels have
thousands.
3. In order to have larger databases it has to go through your Test
Drive and one has to
be connected to a network? That's another no-no.
4. And finally, the major concern I have with DP on Win7 64-bit is also
not solved
with vDos, i.e. Ctrl-F7, Ctrl-F4 and other Ctrl keys also do not work
with vDos.
Unfortunately, the way it looks now, it doesn't seem to be very useful
for my huge
databases and it seems that I will have to get another database program.
I wish I would
know which would be as user friendly and neat and easy to work with as
DP.

In an nutshell, you can go looking for lots of other database
products, but I do not think you will find any delivering the goods like
DP does.
That's my 2 (thousand) cents worth.
Where do I go from here if vDos is also not an option for 64-bit as I
said above? I need
emergency solution.
Malkie
