1: For your first question: edit config.txt
There are some options to adjust the screen, and they are well documented
in the file...
2: For your second question: edit autoexec.txt
First map one or more vDos driveletters to Windows directories.
Use <driveletter:> <Windows directory>
Examples: use c: c:\ use f: f:\
Now, switch from z: to the drive where your application is stored:
Example: f:
Then select the directory on that drive where the application is stored:
Example: cd GingerII\DATA\DP-DATA\DP-WAND
And start the application with all the parameters you need:
Example: F:\GingerII\DP\DP.EXE DP-WAND /W /d=F:\GingerII\DPTEMP /P=1
See? The path for DP.exe is on another directory than the directory where
the application is stored.
Now, create a Windows shortcut with the following parameters:
The program should point to F:\GingerII\vDOS\vDos.exe (or any other
directory you have installed vDos in),
and the working directory should point to F:\GingerII\DATA\DP-DATA\DP-WAND
You can make as many different config.txt, autoexec.txt and shortcut files
as you need, one threesome per application/directory, each 3 with their
own configuration... You will also have to copy the file Language.ini in
each of the working directories...
Unfortunately, the readme.txt file that came with the first version of
vDos is missing in the last version.
Maybe Jos should include it again, because it contains the exact
description of what I mentioned above and it is difficult to understand
how to configure multiple applications without this information:
Tip:
If you have multiple DOS programs and create directories for each of them,
you don't have to copy all vDos files into there.
Only the config.txt, autoexec.txt and language.ini files are needed there.
Create a shortcut to the location of the vDos executable.
Modify the properties of the shortcut:
Start in : The directory of the three files
Run : Minimized, this will get rid of that little temporary popup window

What I find interesting is that by default the pathname is c:\dptest

What restrictions about panels and records? I have been testing it on a
system with perhaps 100 panels, millions of records, these are huge
gigabyte
sized databases, with What's the "Test Drive". I just set it up to run
it
to a Command prompt like running CMD. I will have to test out the
keystrokes more thoroughly but certainaly Ctrl-F7, Ctrl-F4 etc work,
but if
there is a problem, I would think Jos (or others since it is open
source)
will work that out.
Oh oh oh, I know what you are talking about. The version of DP that Jos
has
bundled up, to show it working is a very very old Test Drive version of
DataPerfect 2.3. Just use a normal late model version of DP like 2.6Y
and
everything will be fine.
Jos, perhaps you are better adding a late model Dataperfect program,
you are
using a '63 Vee-Dub as your showroom model...

As long as you're with Win XP you're in good hands, but once your

This is what I said to Jos Schaars regarding vDos:
I tested it and was very much hoping it would be just what I needed.
What I
liked about vDos is the large screen, unlike the tiny DosBox screen.
However, I have a few major issues with vDos.
1. Limited to creating databases with only 4 panels is a major problem,
as
most of my databases have over 25.
2. Limited to only 99 records is also no good since many panels have
thousands.
3. In order to have larger databases it has to go through your Test
Drive
and one has to be connected to a network? That's another no-no.
4. And finally, the major concern I have with DP on Win7 64-bit is also
not
solved with vDos, i.e. Ctrl-F7, Ctrl-F4 and other Ctrl keys also do not
work
with vDos.
Unfortunately, the way it looks now, it doesn't seem to be very useful
for
my huge databases and it seems that I will have to get another database
program. I wish I would know which would be as user friendly and neat
and
easy to work with as DP.
