I can't see what's wrong with liking the price but not the product. Is it
different to liking the product, but not the price? A suggested next topic:

But price is an important part of the equation!

We dislike the prices that we pay for Rational (and their brain dead
licensing system) and are actively searching (when we have time) for a
replacement. Is this how Borland want us to view Delphi?

Oracle will negotiate on their prices to the n'th degree. I saw a report
about this that concluded (I recall) that if you were paying more than the
cost of any equivalent Microsoft product you should sack your negotiating
team.

So with regard to your Oracle comparison the question is rephrased to:
Does Microsoft have an equivalent product, and what if so what are they
charging for it?

I feel that Borland are between a rock and a very hard place - they just
can't compete against Microsoft on a level playing field with regard to
Windows development tools.

But this pricing makes Borland's problem mine! In the long run the higher
the price, the fewer the developers, and thus the higher the price must go!
A very nasty circle. And one that I worry many will soon have to get off.

I can see no realistic way for Borland to get out this circle with regard to
Delphi. I do hope however that if they decide to abandon the windows
development tool market that they will hand Delphi over to the open source
community.
