So am I to a point, (My BE thesis was on the hardware design of a Pascal
P-Code Machine)
But I would not use Delphi for Web based development, there are better more
widely supported
(non M$) more portable methods (JSP, PHP, Zope). Mind you I am saying this
in the present not 5 years
ago. As for databases the same applies for a clean field dev I propose
PostgreSQL, for an MS Company
MS SQL, Interbase does not get my nod simply because it is Borland, I get
the feeling that a lot
of Delphi Developers are Zenophobic to some degree
As for MS Pricing it intrigues me that we rail against M$ anti-competative
tactics (including pricing)
and then expect Borland to match their prices! If you are going to talk the
talk then walk the walk...
If VB is so great the why aren't we using it (to state the obvious) I'd hate
to be a VB developer at the
mercy of M$ levering me into .NET or C#
Borland are a great company with a great family of development products and
testament to that
is the fact that they still exist on merit and not installed base. The
mighty M$ with their 'status' of
technology leaders cannot fool we the developers with their slick marketing,
or can they? I've read
some comments on this forum recently that might suggest they are making
inroads
