Well I guess I'll throw my (probably unpopular) .02 in here...lots snipped

3. The primary objective of *any* product page is let the user grab it.

Do you relly thing that this cannot be accomplished with a box that
reads "Download"?

I got to thinking about this a bit more last nite. Is the reason people can't easily figure out HOW to download OOo is simply the omission of a *button* as opposed to text link we've got. WOW! How easy is it to fix that?!

Nah, the big "goal" should be to attract contributors (but before you respond: I know this is not possible with a front-page)

I agree with this...what good is this product *at all* if has no sustainability. Yes, getting fols to use it IS good, and frnaly without users what's the point of the product. But...well obiviously a vicious circle here.

All philosophisizng aside, I think ANY web site IS, first and foremost,
regardless of what the heck it's about, a "first impression" to the world. So, in our case, what feeling/sense do we want the world to know/get from OOo? This is WAY up there in terms of a view, I realize, but I guess I basically see it as just a few things really...

* it's an open source endeavor that produces a product--the suite itself
* we want YOU to try/use the product (this gets us into the download and support issues)
* we need HELP to continue our efforts

anything else is just icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned
