I have a substantially different view on this one.- but anyway...

It is. Having only to choose betwee "A" "B" and "C" is clearly easier
than having to choose between 26 choices.
This imporves usability. 

But I'm not advocating against a specialized link for Documentation.

Leave that alone. I already said that other pages should not influence
the font page. (at least I'm not willing to accept this as an argument)

I don't see a contradiction with my statement. I want to get rid of the
link on the front page and instead link to the contributing page.

I know. But why should this item have it's place on the front page that
should address new users, "the clueless", newbies?
