I support the initiative, but as it stands no clear picture is provided

Basically you're asking for a carte-blanche, and that requires a project
instead of a hack-vote.
I'm willing to reconsider if a new proposal is made, outlining in more detail what modifications are proposed - e.g. at API level.
I feel the same. After some discution with michiel I think what they are trying to do
is to NOT incorporate the functions in mmbase but create an api so that it's possible
to create java classes that uses or return Nodes / NodeLists. it this right?
No it imho creates hooks so we can have functions on nodes, managers and clouds (global) a result
is ofcource that you could create a class that returns a NodeList, but it also means you can add ways
to add functions to managers (say the given image builder example).
To keep this a 'hack' instead of a full blown project we tried to not include any implementation of these
function hooks (say using xml files for example) but this seems to be backfiring.
Daniel.
