That's correct. If the update to the forward zone based on the
FQDN fails, neither the forward nor the reverse zone is updated.
This is not a simple problem. Supposing a Win95 or NT box decides
to give itself the name of one of your routers, or some other
well-known name? I personally don't know what the right thing
to do in the case of a "name already exists" error is.
Note that if the client releases the lease before it's moved to
a different subnet, all the records will be correctly freed.
But neither NT or Win95 release DHCP leases when they
shut down. This has to be done manually with "ipconfig" for
NT or "winipcfg" for Win95.
} Is there a file containing the dynamically updated IP addresses? If so,

Check the named.conf file on the DNS. It will contain a pointer
to where the zone files are kept.
