The #1 reason why zip has got to go is symlinks. The shared libraries for Linux in the zip are messed up, because you can't put symlinks in the zip file. We really need to have OS-specific archives with the Linux one being something like .tar.gz or .tar.bz2. - Jonathan M Davis
