This is true, no matter what you're talking about. There's a difference between adequacy and excellence in architecture, medicine, politics, and management.

And it's often overlooked by the foundations of the discipline. How do you identify the excellent within the field? How do you extract what makes them excel? How do you teach those elements to those that are merely adequate (or worse)?

This is one of the key things we're looking into for UX. I don't have any answers yet, but I think we've made some progress.
