Given current situation, will day pass option for Tue or Wed work for DDF? It
will be even better if there is a developer discount for DDF.

Thanks,
George

Event

For the open source technical community, no other event is as important as DDF,
so if they have to pay for getting together to get the work done and plan the
future of the project, i think it's disappointing :(.

Casey confirmed to me in a private thread that those attending the ODL DDF on
Monday and Tuesday will have to register for the ONS event. That's a deal
breaker for me, I won't be attending the DDF if I'm forced to pay the
ridiculously expensive ONS registration fee.

Needless to say, I'm very disappointed in how this had been handled and
organized.

Brady

If that's the case, then probably Option 1 is not really an option :).

I guess the only concern with option 1) is the one Brady brought: the high
price (1.8K$?) people just interested in ODL DDF will have to pay if there is
no free/reduced pass for ODL DDF. This can imo lower the DDF attendance so
better get some clarification on this too.

From Phil's mail, I personally would prefer option 1 or 2, because these
options are way better than asking folks to travel on Saturday to attend one
day event on Sunday and waste Monday again in travel. I believe common set of
people who wants to attend ODL DDF and ONS event (paid registration) is very
small, so we need to consider the remaining bigger set of people who are just
looking for attending ODL DDF, because from ODL DDF perspective that's more
important. From that perspective i think option 1 is better and if that doesn't
work than option 2 seems like an alternate, but not sure that will work well
for the folks travelling international. So seems like Option 1 is the only
option we have as of now, which i think is not a bad option.

I think we have the following constraints (based on discussions at the TSC and
another separate chat I had last Wednesday with Ray Paik and Casey):

  * We cannot have just following the ONS due to Passover Friday March 30 to
Saturday April 7 during which some members cannot attend. Also Friday March 30
is not available at the venue.
  * We cannot have DDF during the Monday-Tuesday of the ONS week - due to the
LFN cross collaboration
  * Sunday March 25 is available and LFN would be able to arrange rooms for
the DDF
  * Other days like Daniel's suggestion Thursday-Friday March 18-19 in Los
Angeles or somewhere else

     * an appropriate venue at appropriate price would need to be found
     * Folks traveling from abroad may not have the approval for an over the
weekend stay.
     * Also folks coming for ONS as well may find it hard to stay from
Thursday March 18 to Thursday March 29
Given these constraints - do we still want to pursue another option
(Thursday-Friday March 18-19) compared to Sunday March 25?

Please voice your opinions soon. Otherwise the original decision of Sunday
March 25 would stand. As Luis mentioned - we would need to start booking travel.

Phil's email [0] seems to throw a wrench into this whole thing. Sounds like
Sunday is no longer available to us but Monday/Tuesday is. Or we will have to
do it on another date and place.

Thanh
