Being open, publicly, buys us a lot. It keeps our heads in the correct, accurate
context. It helps us interact with the community. It helps us attract members.
It helps us dispel the myths, prejudices, and FUD that come part and parcel with
the term 'hacker'[1]. Anyone that spends half-an-hour on the Internet can get an
accurate picture of who we are and what we're about, which is great 
marketing[2].

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen^wopenness would be 
it[3].
