I probably qualify as a jazz lover. I have a very big (~2TB) collection of jazz. For me, the biggest challenge was (and partially is) to classify my collection, so I could later quickly find what I need. For that I currently use multiple genres. My genres today tend to include style and leading instrument. So , for example, Borah Bergmann albums usually have the following string in genre field: Jazz & Avant-Garde Jazz & Piano. (In my setup, & is a delimiter). This translates into three genres for this album.
This system is not perfect, since the album will be present in all three categories: a very broad "jazz" category, and two others: "avant-garde jazz" and "piano". When I search for music, I either go for specific artist or band (in which case I know what I want), or I select some genre (e.g. "free jazz") What I would like to see is a kind of approach allmusic is using (genre/styles), with some additions like lead instrument (I treat vocal as instrument). In this case I would be able to select: 1. Genre - jazz 2. Style - modal 3. Instrument - piano, and this will give me Bill Evans and some others. -- ymilner ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ymilner's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1370 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81898 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
