Hi Anne. OK, so there clearly were external beta testers ... that
can only be a good thing. It's also true to say that VO has changed
since its inception. But do Apple no longer beta test their changes
prior to public release? The verbosity issue I'm experiencing in
Mail has always been present as far as I can remember. I'm not using
an Intel Mac as yet. When I bought my machine, it came with Mac OS
v10.4.0. So presumably, and I'm open to correction on this one, this
was the first public release of VO, was it not?

Hello Gordon and everyone,
VO was beta-tested by people who have no connection with Apple, I
know this for a fact as I was one of them. I also know that I am
far from being the only one on this list.
VO has changed dramatically from its original manifestation when it
was called the "Spoken Interface". I'm sure I still have that
original version on a backup somewhere if anyone is interested.
As for VO behaving differently for different people, this is
probably because of the many different settings we can choose. It
might also have to do with differences between machines,
particularly with the change to Intel Macs.
