Hi James,
If I'm understanding your question correctly then my answer is no.
The iPod does show up on your Desktop like any other ejectable device
but you cannot copy large files such as music to it unless you put it
in Disk mode. The problem with Disk mode is that I'm pretty sure
that the items you copy when in Disk mode cannot be seen by the
iPod's music player. I would check things out further before making
the investment if I were you.
