Hi,
I use a first generation ipod shuffle so this may or may not apply to you. To allocate space on my ipod for disk use I need to use iTunes. Once that is done, anything that is in the data section is not considered music. So if I copy and paste things to my ipod using the Finder, I won't be able to listen to it with the ipod itself. Nothing in the data section will be played by my ipod. My ipod will store the data but that's all.
Hope this helps,
Lisa
