i used group mode under tiger. now i use dom mode. to me it seems to display things much better than group mode did in tiger. i know on my sighted brother's page it displays the info there much better than it did in group mode. i don't know if any improvements were made in group mode under leopard now though so i might not know anything about what i've written here.

Ok Josh, which would you rather do, hae to interact with something every time you want to read it or just read or skip it? With grouped mode, I have to use the poor group constructs to look over the page and pickthe best one and this after the page loads slowly and I've gone through the tedium of navigating the page with vo. In either mode, I can tab throuh the page, get lists of links, find stuff by eement type and jump through elements I think I cn do this in group mode anyway. In any event, when I am in dom mode and find something I want to read, I can just press vo-a and begin reading and yes, it won't read the whole thing, but neither do I have to open and close groups. What am I missing?

I understand how it works ad in principle, it is fine. I just find it much slower and more complex than dom nav. perhaps if more people understood dom nav, they'd use it instead becaust it's a lot less work.

I totally disagree. DOM mode with VO has all the same problems that it does with Window-Eyes or Jaws. I've used both modes. DOM navigation requires more navigation, gives a less accurate representation of the page, and requires far more arrowing around. I suspect if you did a survey, you'd likely find that most users are using DOM mode, not Grouped, because it is so much like what they've become accustomed to in Windows. I'm sure you understand the concept behind grouped navigation, but I don't think you fully understand the best ways of utilizing it to your advantage while browsing. Everyone will have a different opinion why they like one over the other, but as a matter of sheer practicality, it is very difficult to make an argument that DOM mode is more efficient than grouped.

I'd like to hear what others are using and why, and how many have actually learned to use Grouped mode in depth.
