Ah... So we have very different opinions about this topic! :)

No, I don't think it's a matter of individuals. I'm still trying to
understand the developing system that Andrew Brown was outlining as
"Open Source" in his article. He was speaking about volunteers' vs
corporation's development (per evitare equivoci linguistici tra noi:
sviluppo volontario vs sviluppo aziendale) and I don't believe this
is Open Source or Free Software.

I agree with Louis when he says: "My understanding is that open source
does not depend on volunteers. It is a mode of production, one that
allows for horizonless collaboration."

Corporations, government entities and volunteers can be member of the
same Community. And there are several Open Source/Free
Software Communities in the world.

Again, I may even agree with you when you say Novell, and/or Sun, and/or
XYZ corporation has a wrong or bad or not enough "intelligent" way to
approach open source desktop software development. However, such opinion
would only explain that *some* applications of the open source concept
are *perhaps* missing the goal (BTW: which goals? Having an open
source desktop? Sharing knowledge? ... ?).

What you think you've seen in OOo or Novell Evolution are only clues
and not evidences of a general problem.

Of course, I can accept your assumption and Andrew Brown's one too when
we discuss in a mailing list where we can exchange our ideas. Instead, I
don't accept it when it is used on a newspaper web site in order to
show an axiom.

Regards,

Gianluca
