I too noticed the sign on the rack the other day, and though I was not offended
by it, I was surprised. I considered the source and took it as the joke it was
intended as. The same can probably be said for Ben and his joke. I am not
saying any of this is not hurtful, I just don't believe any of it is coming
from a place of hatred. Bigotry stems from ignorance, intolerance, and low
intellect. I do not know Ben but I would guess he is none of these things. His
joke was not well received and he was quickly and righteously set straight. I
have found myself in a similar situations and though I was beyond embarrassed
by how I acted or what I said, I have found that a quick and sincere apology is
the best thing.

The point I want to make is though I recognize tolerance of differences is
important, I don't want to work or play in an environment that is uptight. I
don't want to walk on egg shells when I talk or hang out. I want to have fun.
If I cross a line, a direct response telling me that is too far will receive a
direct apology, and I will not go there again. Please strive to be respectful
to everyone but at the same time please don't make the place stuffy with
oversensitivity.
