All,

   Back in the day when new hams and/or SWL's were looking
for a good sounding speaker, we would recommend a Radio
Shack Minimus (sp?) 7 bookshelf stereo speaker.  They were
affordable as compared to the speakers from the various
radio manufacturers (especially when RS ran a sale), and
they generally sounded better.   

   Unfortunately, that speaker is no longer sold.  However
I am sure that RS still sells a similar unit now, or you
can try to find a pair at a Hamfest.
