I am on digest, so I receive the list a little behind others. I have
to say I am a little more than shocked to have received today's list
activity.
Ilene: You haven't called us, nor provided me with a number to reach
you. In fact, when I emailed for a number to call you to report my
findings, you refused to provide one. And rather than reply to me
privately or respond to a follow-up to you, suddenly this post to the
list.
So let's set the record straight: I received your powerbook, replaced
the fuse (and your supplied PRAM battery) and identified another
component I do not have in stock which needs attention -- less than
24 hrs after receiving the 2400. You were notified promptly about
this issue. My suggestion was to request an RMA from DT&T for the
repair and I would ship it to them for you if that was what you
wanted to do. I did not ask you to call around for the part -- you
took that upon yourself and told me only after you attempted to
contact DT&T with an email telling them to sell me the chipset.
What if I had lied to you instead? What if I had said the entire
board needed replacing, along with the CPU and the motherboard? I
could have purchased the parts from DT&T or another source and resold
them to you. That would have solved the problem, made a handsome
profit for me, and you would have had your 2400 back. Instead, I was
completely honest, trying to save you time and expense.
I've tried to be a good participant to this list, supportive with
information, occasional opinion, and offering some services as an
alternative to the other professional resources available. I've
often recommended those same resources for services I don't provide.
I don't mind being bashed publicly for bad service or poor
performance. And of the 30 or so list participants I've provided
service, there are two who we have failed to completely satisfy. I
guess we are up to three, now.
If you would have communicated with me privately, I don't think this
would have been so uncomfortable for either of us. I'm sorry to have
wasted the list bandwidth with my post. I find myself libeled
without just cause. Certainly, we now have to rethink our policy on
repair, or whether to offer future repairs without an extensive legal
pre-repair document for signature and notarization. If anyone has
suggestions or comments regarding my policy, my actions, or anything
else related to the above, please feel free to drop me a note
privately. I do not want to drag this customer into a flame war, nor
embarrass anyone else, so please refrain from publicly attacking
anyone other than me on this matter.
Thank you,
paul vail
