I mentioned before about the "sony" type adaptor that lets you switch some dip switches to select the monitor. If you can't find one of these then what you will have to do is find the docs on how to setup a cable for an apple monitor. I use to have these years ago but I don't now. They are prolly on the net.
The adaptors without the dip switches wont work for you. They really only work on the new computers. Prior to that the monitors were set by grounding pins in the cable. The "sony" type adaptors were able to do this with the dip switches.
