Hi Chris- Back in Feb. I wrote about my G3 problems and you replied as noted in the email below.
Well I finally got word that they tried six new hard drives in it and the only one that worked was a six year old drive. So they feel it is the Logic Board that is the problem. They were able to burn a CD with my old HD contents so that saved my work, the programs I do for rehabilitation work for my Troubled Youth and Adult Offenders project here in Kokomo and some of the training work I do internationally. However the estimated cost is about $500 and obviously this is not a good investment considering the age of the unity and what is available today. My thinking is that maybe I can get a new EMac for around $800, have them install all my old HD contents and reinstall my software I need for my classes, i.e. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Microsoft Office 98, WordPerfect, AppleWorks, FileMakerPro and a few other apps. as well as my beloved Claris Emailer but then I thought of a problem concerning Emailer and wanted to know your advice. Obviously if I buy the EMac they will install OSX and Classic and I'm going to face the problem if Emailer will work and if not how to Export my Address Book and files to the new mailer, whatever it will be. And since my partner and I are now applying for a Grant of around a million dollars with which to operate three locations doing our rehab. program and plan on purchasing three G5s and whatever else we need for communication, and further development of our program maybe it is a good idea to go for the G5 now instead of the EMac except I really cannot afford either unless I buy it on the Apple contract basis. Whatever way I go Chris I would be glad to send you my old G3 and if you are interested I can also send my old SCSI drives, such as my Zip, and Syquest, Imation and also I have a good UMAX Vista S6 Scanner with OmniPro. I also have a blue and white Epson 740i Stylus printer. I would like to get something for these but leave it to your judgement for in a sense I consider it in some way a payment for your wonderful advice from time to time. If I get the Emac then I would need to be able somehow to transfer all my old Syquest and Zip files over to a CD or something before I let them go.
