If I well understand, your problem is just to add a new HD ???
Unfortunately you didn't specify your G3 Model...
There is a know ATA problem with some B&W G3 rev1, as ATA was buggy on
old G3s, only old and slow ATA disk works (anyway under 120 Go & maybe
less), There is a cheap & easy remedy : just add an Acard (or Sonnet) ATA
Pci card, and any disk you find will work faster than before without any
problem, both with 9 & X.
NB : if it's a beige G3, remember you MUST install OSX on the 1st 8 Go
partition.
